Annual Physicals

Make seeing your provider when you’re feeling well a priority. Annual physicals help your provider at Midwest Wellness and Wound Care get to know you as a patient, check out your normal vitals, and screen for signs of possible health problems. Call the office based in Gilbert, Arizona, or request an appointment online today.

Why should I prioritize annual physicals?

Annual physicals help you avoid many common health problems that don’t always show symptoms until they’re in a crisis state. For example, hypertension and Type 2 diabetes can cause serious internal damage without outward signs.

Annual physicals are also a time to update your medical history and to develop a relationship with your provider. This helps if you should come in with an illness or urgent condition. Your provider uses baseline measures obtained at annual physicals to determine where you may have irregularities in your system, whether that’s body temperature, heart rate, weight, or breathing rate.

Annual physicals are also a time for you to bring up any concerns you might have about your general health. You can ask questions, review medications, and ask about supplements or diet.

What happens during an annual physical?

The first part of your physical involves reviewing your medical history and documenting any current symptoms or health concerns. This is a good time for you to ask questions, too.

You’ll report on any lifestyle choices like smoking, alcohol consumption, or diet and exercise that may impact your health. A nurse measures your vitals, including blood pressure, weight, and heart rate.

Your Midwest Wellness and Wound Care provider then checks your heart and lungs with a stethoscope and evaluates your eyes, ears, and nose with a magnifying instrument.

If anything is found during your exam that raises questions, your provider may recommend additional tests.

Your physical is also a time to get caught up on necessary vaccines or boosters. Your provider may also recommend age-specific screenings like a colonoscopy or mammogram.

What special physical exams are available?

The team at Midwest Wellness and Wound Care can sign off on Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals and many physicals required by schools, employers, or sports teams. Physicals specific to women’s and men’s health are also available. These may include Pap smears for women or testicular testing for men.
