What is a wound matrix?

A wound matrix at Midwest Wellness and Wound Care uses Ozema advanced wound care technology to enhance the healing of chronic wounds. This matrix consists of a solid made from cold water fish peptides, omega-3 fatty acids, and other nutrients.

It provides three-dimensional scaffolding for new tissue to grow on. The matrix is absorbable and biodegradable over time. It covers the entire wound, providing a barrier and protective environment for your wound to heal.

What are the benefits of a wound matrix?

A wound matrix offers the following benefits:

  • Reduced wound bacteria
  • Less inflammation
  • Faster healing
  • Less pain
  • Increased oxygen and nutrients into wounds
  • New tissue formation

The matrix is made up of time-released elements that travel into wound bed crevices, supporting each stage of your wound’s healing process.

Which wounds can a wound matrix help treat?

A wound matrix can heal the following wounds and more:

  • Diabetic ulcers
  • Chronic vascular ulcers
  • Partial and full-thickness wounds
  • Wounds caused by peripheral artery disease (PAD)
  • Bedsores and other pressure ulcers
  • Venous wounds
  • Tunneled/undermined wounds
  • Draining wounds
  • Surgical wounds
  • Trauma wounds
  • Lymphedema-related wounds

Have any wound that is large, painful, or not healing evaluated by the experts at Midwest Wellness and Wound Care.

Am I a candidate for receiving a wound matrix?

Your Midwest Wellness and Wound Care provider examines a nonhealing wound, discusses your medical history, and reviews your symptoms.

They may recommend a swab, biopsy, blood work, X-rays, MRIs, or other imaging procedures to determine which wound care treatment is best suited for you.

What happens during wound matrix placement?

Your wound care specialist can travel to your home to apply a wound matrix to a chronic wound. They clean the area, place the matrix directly on the wound, and secure it in place. Over time, the matrix supports healthier and faster healing. Your specialist follows up to ensure an effective, lasting outcome.

In addition to a wound matrix, other treatment options include UltraMIST®, compression therapy, skin grafts, debridement, negative pressure wound therapy, and other advanced wound care solutions. You may be a candidate for more than one treatment.
